Chicago Gourmet, presented by Bon Appetit and put on by the Illinois Restaurant Association, is a celebration of food and wine showcasing more than 100 of Chicago’s finest restaurants and chefs, as well as hundreds of renowned vintners, spirit makers, and premium breweries from around the world. The event is taking place next weekend in Millennium Park where attendees can watch live cooking demonstrations, tastings, and meet & greets with world class master chefs, sommeliers, and winemakers.
Some of the demonstrations include “Smackdown” competitions between chefs for the best tacos, meatballs, or bratwurst, Top Chef Masters, What We Learned From Julia Child, and the Original Culinary Gangsters of Chicago with Jimmy Bannos Sr (Heaven on Seven, The Purple Pig) and Tony Mantuano (Spiaggia, Terzo Piano, Bar Toma).
This is a must attend event for any foodie! One of the most exciting events to kick off the weekend is the annual Hamburger Hop. Top local chefs will battle in a burger competition while guests
enjoy tasty, gourmet burgers, along with beer, wine, spirits, and more. A celebrity panel of judges determines the city’s Best Burger award, while guest’s crown the People’s Choice. In 2010 chef Kevin Hickey won the People’s Choice with a bison burger topped with candied bacon, truffle cheese, and lobster/ketchup/mayo sauce!
To keep the party going after hours there is also the Late Night Gourmet to cap off the night with tasty drinks, hot music, and revelry with your favorite gourmet chefs!
All Chicago Gourmet events are ticketed and can be purchased on their website.
